Hi Theo

I'm also new to ubuntu and have face similar problem you're facing. From the readings i gone thru the forum & help sites, i think there's still a unresolved bug with the Network app.

You can try this work around. anyway it works for me. Do u have dual boot, ie windows or ubuntu when the PC up? If yes, run windoze, initiatel ur modem connection and ensure u 're connected to the internet. Shutdown and immediately reboot to ubuntu and try to browse once ur OS is up and running. See what happens.

I've been using this method for about 2 weeks now. Looks like I'll still be locked to windoze for quite a while until someone resolves this or provide some help in this forum.

Cheers

Thanx for you reply. Good thing I've just been running the livecd and no installation yet. Thought I'd check first to see if I'm able to connect to the internet before installing Ubuntu. Will try dual boot.
Can I create dual boot when installing Ubuntu or how does this work?

Thank you

U can install from the live cd without connecting to the internet. Just follow the steps but be careful when it comes to partitioning the hardrive. Backup ur important data before u install dual boot, just in case! If u are unsure get help from the ubuntu site for documentation before u do anything. We are all learning, mostly thru trial and error. Hope this help.

Can you help with this problem?
