Display is too big to fit on DellInspiron 1521 laptop monitor.

Asked by maheshvarananda

Recently my screen went berserk. Everything is way too big to fit on the screen. I cannot even see or access the bottom of some menu messages.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1521 laptop. The monitor is ATI Radeon X1270 or PNP Generic. Cannot find this particular screen in the "Screen and Graphics Preferences".

Screen resolution is 640x480, refresh rate 60 Hz. There is no other option to choose from. Help please!

Hi:

Have you tried:
System -> Administration -> Screen and Graphics Preferences

Thanks, Rodrigo Donado, but I already tried that. I did find that Dell has a list of more than 50 monitors, but nothing seemed to match my laptop or its monitor.

try running
sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

then restarting X (either by pressing ctrl+alt+backspace or logging out then in again)
