I can't copy the Ubuntu 6.06 LTS CD

Asked by Ron DeRosier

I cannot copy the Ubuntu 6.06 LTS CD on my Mac running
OS X 10.4.8 using Disk Utility, and I've NEVER had this
problem before (and I use it all the time). I ONLY requested
one CD because you say you can make copies from it.
Why am I not able to copy it? Is there a workaround?

Thanks

Ron

Can you see the contents of the CD? Could it be that the CD is bad? Have you tried booting from it make sure it works? Are there any error messages?

I can read the contents of the CD. I have not tried to boot from
the CD yet, since I'm not sure how to do this. I'm looking into
booting from the CD.

To boot from a CD on a Mac. Put the CD in the drive and then restart the
computer. As it is starting up, hold the C key down on the keyboard and the
system should boot from the CD.

I don't know how to make a bootable CD from another CD with Disk Utility in Mac OS x. But perhaps we can try this approach?

Download the Ubuntu ISO image from a close mirror: http://www.ubuntu.com/download

Next, follow these instructions on creating a bootable CD from an iso image file using the Disk Utility: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20040215004629304

I hope this helps.

I was able to burn a CD from a downloaded Ubuntu ISO image.
This is a satisfactory workaround for me, HOWEVER, it does
not explain why I cannot burn a CD backup of the original CD.

Thanks
