How do I put in a password to open .rar encrypted files?

Asked by kamo

I cannot put in a password for my encrypted .rar file. I have the password. How do I get to a command line or be able to open the encrypted file with the password. When I open the .rar I get this instantly "Encrypted file: CRC failed in /home/kamo/Desktop/C-Murder.rar (password incorrect ?)". How can I fix this??

Which application are you trying to open it with?

You should be able to decompress it by typing:

rar x /home/kamo/Desktop/C-Murder.rar

from the command line. It should prompt you for your password and should decompress it if you enter it correctly.

Let me know how that goes.

Alex

It's Archive Manager(File-Roller). I tried what you typed but that didn't work. Thanks for the help though. ^__^

Ok, File-roller is just a front-end for rar. Can you post the output from
the command I gave you?
