Yes, I am using Live USB.

My question is after installing the "Ubuntu restricted extras" via Ubuntu software centre, will the downloaded software remain in the pen drive forever, or will it get deleted after shutdown. If so what to do so as to keep the persistence working, which is not working.

If you are running Ubuntu via LIVE-USB then you have to create a persistent-space for your configurations to be saved.

See here about persistent-space: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LiveUsbPendrivePersistent

If you haven't a persistent space , every time you reboot everything is lost.

Thanks

I already have the persistent space created at the time of making the Live
USB, still every time I reboot everything is
lost. Please suggest.

I have a USB with persistent too , and nothing lost in reboot. Try to create a user from users accounts and see if working better.

Thanks

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras vlc gnome-mplayer

sudo -E wget --output-document=/etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/$(lsb_release -cs).list && sudo apt-get --quiet update && sudo apt-get --yes --quiet --allow-unauthenticated install medibuntu-keyring && sudo apt-get --quiet update

sudo apt-get install w32codecs

(I assume you are using 32bit Gnome based Ubuntu).

Please read the screen copy message pasted yesterday, regarding the following:

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras vlc gnome-mplayer
sudo -E wget --output-document=/etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/$(lsb_release -cs).list && sudo apt-get --quiet update && sudo apt-get --yes --quiet --allow-unauthenticated install medibuntu-keyring && sudo apt-get --quiet update
sudo apt-get install w64codecs

Moreover, the Live USB (startup disk), though have the persistance space created, thrice, and also created a user from users accounts, bit did not work.

Any file or folder was not saved upon exit.

I also follwed the https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LiveUsbPendrivePersistent and tried, but not helped. Gparted shows the pendrive as FAT16.

Also tried to delete casper-RW and create a new partition with the same same.

To enable the persistant mode, do I need to change the Live USB's file system to FAT32 or EXT3 or EXT4 (something like that)?

Will any downloads and installations still can be saved even efter shutdowns. Any other alternatives, please?

Thank you everyone.

FAT32 . The native filesystem of the Usb-stick and use the Startup-Disk-Creator. This program is pre-installed in Ubuntu.
Thanks
