problem installing unix version of yahoo messenger

Asked by Jeffrey Seguerra

I found in the ubuntu forum how to install unix version of ubuntu but somehow I can't finish my installation.

its looking for libssl0.9.6. It's already installed libssl0.9.8 in the Synaptic Package Manager. Aren't they the same?

Here's a screenshot of the error...

some applications are stuck with old librarys that have been updated, sometimes when we update a library a package that we directly use like yahoo msgr or firefox dont work anymore, usually before the library is updated, they send out a version on their website for programmers to update their packages to work before the library goes out into the world.

some packages arent maintained well, like yahoo messenger, you might want to try a different more active package, good examples are pidgin or kopete
these packages are more frequently used than other commercial ones. because its open source. pidgin/kopete have more features too.

Yahoo Messenger for Linux is very poor. You will be disappointed with it. I couldn't get it to work from the .deb. I installed it by downloading the Redhat and using the program alien to convert it . If you are installing from the terminal just change the number!

Other IRC clients work with Yahoo. I have Kopete (which supports video through a webcam), Simple IM ( which despite being simple is very strong), Pidgin, SIP Communicator and Konversaition. They all work with Yahoo.
