How can I get the RPM function in Kubuntu?

Asked by Rein van de Velde

Hi,
I downloaded the driver software for my Canon PIXMA iP4200 bubble jet printer.
They provide it only as .RPM packages.
In Mandriva Linux it was very comfortable installing with the rpm command.
Now I would like to have that software installed again in Kubuntu 7.10.
But there is no rpm command available.
Is it possible to transform the .RPM format into .DEB format?
If not, what else could I try?
I installed Canon type 4100 as nearest available in Kubuntu but that driver gives very weak colors.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Regards.

You need the program called "alien".

Have a look at http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-204853.html

You can also install `rpm` and `yum` from the Ubuntu repositories.

Dear arochester
Thanks a lot for writing down the commands.
With copy from the website and paste in the console
I had my printer working within ten minutes.
I am new to Kubuntu and this experience makes me happy.
