You can do that using the manual partition selection instead of guided. Just make sure you create a swap space and a / space. / will be your root mount point. and SWAP is used as like extra ram. You want swap to be about 1.5 X the size of your ram typically.

hey fellas ,, thanks for the help , i have some idea about the partition now ...
can u differenciate between a swap , a mount point , /home ?? and creating this , is it just an directory that is going to be placed in an local drive "D" or the separate partition itself in an local drive ? AND ONE MORE THING , while installation , in the stage 6 ,, after when i enter about my information and press forward , a error message occurs and the installation freezes ,, i will be left with no option but to quit the installation and remove the cd . i have tried many times , but yet the same error message occurs .. well i dont remember the error message ,, i shall post it as soon as possible .
thanx for the support .

Sorry for taking so long to respond. You will want to create seperate partitions on whatever physical drive you are using. When creating these partitions you can tell ubuntu to mount /, /home and swap on each of these partitions. The / and /home need to be the ect3 type of partition while swap has to be the swap type.

You might want to create another topic with the other error.

If you have any other questions or need more clarification just ask :)
