Installation problems

Asked by Govindarajan

I have t 160GB IDE hard drives and the first one has Vista. The second one had SUSE which I want replace with UBUNTU. I have a CD that came with a UK magzine (6.06 version). When I try to install on the second drive, it goes up to the 5th step and stops with an error saying that the installer crashed and report problems. Though they are IDE drives, I see them as /dev/sda when I do a df on them. I am a knowleadgeable computer person and it is disconcerting. I like what I see in ubuntu. Thanks for the help.

Is this a SATA drive? Do you have a mass USB storage pluged ? If not reinstall, just select a / and swap and try again. You can mount others later.

I recommend that you start a new support request. So, that the Ubuntu Support Team can help you with your request efficiently and so that the proper people can get credit for their work. I also would ask that you give specific information regarding any errors given by the installer. There is also some very good documentation on how to install Ubuntu at < https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation >.
Thanks,
Ubuntu Support Team
