WiFi not working in a Acer Aspire 3102NWLMi

Asked by Carlos Moura

I have Ubuntu 6.06 installed in my Acer Aspire 3012NWLMi in dual boot with XP.
The wireless card ( Atheros 5224, as seen on Device Manager ) is not working.
At lspci command i see:
0000:06:02.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications, Inc.: Unknown device 001a (rev 01)
Dapper is up to date with the Update Manager.
I installed also the Network Manager Applet 0.6.2
The wireless card is working fine with XP.
Please help!
Thanks, Carlos

Carlos,
Ubuntu should support the Atheros drivers via madwifi. Madwifi is part of the "linux-restricted-modules" package due to its licensing, but you should be able to install it if you haven't already.

Check to make sure you have that package installed first. The next thing I would do is turn off the encryption on your access point (temporarily) and see if you can connect.

From a command prompt you should be able to see an "ath0" device with the "ifconfig" command.

If you still can't connect try posting the output to the following commands:

"lsmod"
"iwconfig ath0"
"ifconfig ath0"
"iwlist ath0 scan"
"dmesg | egrep 'ath|wifi'"
