I have a newer ACER 5000 and used the CD Image to run UBUNTU from the CD. I could not get my Wireless to work, nor figure out how to install my printer (which is attached to an lpt1 port on my router - not the Acre!. Need help!!

To the original poster - You are refering to the ethernet (not wireless)
Could you post what your ifconfig details are (is eth0 or eth1 listed?)
On boot up - details on the screen - does starting eth fail on the list - does it show?

To do an ifconfig, open a terminal (Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal):

ifconfig -a

Also, it would be great (if you do mean wireless) to post your iwconfig results:

iwconfig

Thanks

Use lspci and search for your ethernet interface, to know if it is installed or not.

Then, try using GNOME`s networks administration (at System menu) to properly configure DHCP or static IP.

If it still don`t work, try running the command:
sudo /etc/init.d/network restart

Same problem on acer 5100. ifconfig and lscpci show the card and interface. Anyway, it won't work.

Can you help with this problem?
