Mozilla and flash plugins problem.

Asked by sirAndrew

Everytime i open a website with flash objects in it my computer freezes and i can`t use anything. I can`t even move the mouse. The music however still plays. I mention i installed the non-free Adobe plugin as wel as the GNU one. Both get my pc stuck.

Which version of the browser and flash plug-in do you use?

i don`t really know...it`s the mozilla which is installed by default on ubuntu 7.10 and i believe it`s the lastest abobe flash plugin which mozilla installs when you visit a website containing flash.

Try removing it (delete libflashplayer.so from whichever plugins directory it put it in - probably ~/.mozilla/plugins) and then try installing the flashplugin-nonfree package from Synaptic. The downside is that the version in the repositories isn't as new as the one you get direct from Adobe, but maybe your computer won't freeze.

For future readers: a fix is available at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=636397 (perhaps that is what you are referring to).
