OSS in Ubuntu

Asked by Chirea Mircea

Is there any chance of getting OSS (Open Sound System) included in Ubuntu? (possibly in Hardy)

I'm asking this because sometimes OSS sometimes works better than ALSA (for example, ALSA has some problems with mixing with my card, while on OSS it works fine, but since there's no ALSA emulation yet, I'm tied to ALSA).

Thanks!

<http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=575521> describes how to build it yourself.

In terms of packaging for Ubuntu, that will probably be done mostly at the Debian level. I can find no evidence that work has begun. (I'm on both Debian and Ubuntu mailing lists related to sort of thing). However, I expect it will be done for Hardy, considering the widespread use of OSS. Please be patient, since after all, it was only GPLed in July 2007.

Can you help with this problem?
