Open Office is driving me nuts!

Asked by Riverrun

When I go to Tools>Options>Language Settings>Writing Aids>Edit, I find that Africaans (Namibia) is selected by default and I want use English (UK) In order to take advantage of the Thesaurus and Spell Check. No matter how many times I change it, it resiles to Africaans; it's driving me nuts. How do I make English (UK) stick?

The dropdown menu you are changing is not a "setting". It is a display filter for the options below. The options below change the enabled modules and the order in which they are displayed/used.

If you want to change your default language settings for documents, spell checking, and UI... do so under the following section:

tools... options... Language Settings... Languages.

Adjust the "User Interface" and "Locale Settings" to English (UK). Also adjust the "Default Languages for documents" settings to English (UK).

Ok Gilbert. Thanks for the help. It's all working as advertised now. Mind you, the default Thesaurus is poor. I'll have to look for a better one. Thanks again and a happy New Year to you.
