cube workspace installation help

Asked by gwujosh

I am really new to linux and ubuntu, i really enjoy it but i need so much help. My friend who introduced me to linux has these cool features, like a cube as his workspace instead of just switching normally with ctrl, alt, and the key it will spin like a 3d cube. also when he shrinks a page it doesnt just go down it is wavy. I have no clue what i am doing and how to install the packages so that they work properly. He doenst know how to either because his friend at NCST installed ubuntu on his computer. He said something about it was "eye candy" and a package called compiz/xgl. If anyone could please give me detailed instructions on how to find this and install it properly so that it works I would be greatly appreciative. Thank you so much ~ josh

Welcome!

The 3d stuff you are thinking of is done using a combination of either XGL or AiGLX plus either Compiz or Beryl.

The following links detail what it is and how to install/configure it.
