install to external usb drive

Would like to keep my xp and install ubuntu to a usb external drive tahat has nothing on it and is 10gig and like to be able to switch back and forth between both xp and your program. Can this be set up?

Which describes how Breezy was set up on a 40GB external USB drive. I don't think that Dapper should be a problem, and 10GB should be enough. Why not just try it and see if it works?

You should be able to simply select the external drive as the mount point for the root filesystem ( / ), and be all set from there.
