ubuntu won't boot from cd

Asked by gnarkill

I tried to boot to Ubtuntu from the Ubtuntu 7.10 cd I downloaded. When it shows the load screen, it glitches, then h 5 minutes, it goes to this other screen with a bunch on words with [ok] at the end.

Then, after about another 5 minutes, it goes to a black screen with a blinking cursor.

I formated my Hard Drive, and tried again, and it gave me the same thing.

What do I do?

If you have another CD for another operating system at hand try and boot it to see what happens. You might also want to try reburning the Ubuntu CD or ordering one from shipit.

Thanks, people. I have tried booting with the disc in before I start the computer, and I get the same thing. I also try to boot with my windows disk, but keep getting errors. Do you think it could be my hard drive? I will try installing on another drive. do I need to have windows installed in order to install Ubuntu?

No you don't need to have Windows installed in order to install Ubuntu.

Please tell us:

- how many RAM do you have on that pc...?
- processor frequency...?

Thank you

Please try to boot with Live Ubuntu install CD and please put and/or remove some boot options that will help you to debug your startup sequence.

Please remove the quiet and splash option.

Here an how to: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootOptions

Thank you.

You are not lost... when you see the first Ubuntu startup pc you must simply press F6 keyboard function key
and using keyboard simply delete the words "quiet splash --" then press enter.

hope this helps
