I have ubuntu 7.10 and I have 2HD's the 1st is a 160GB and the 2nd is a 20GB what I am trying to do is make an exact copy of ubuntu 7.10 that is on the 1sh HD and put it on the 2nd HD just incase the 1st dies or something.

Does anyone know if I can do a stand alone raid sytem or do I have to go buy a raid controler.

I guess you will need hds with same size to make a raid, but you can solve your question better searching at this page:
