Why do I have two 5sec pauses on startup? (Bootchart; Edgy; fsck.reiserfs)

Asked by Aaron Whitehouse

I maintain https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/DellInspiron510m and, as part of that, I benchmark each release and have the system draw me bootcharts.

The bootchart for the edgy release https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/DellInspiron510m?action=AttachFile&do=get&target=bootchart-edgy-20060920-7.png

has two 5 second periods when there is no CPU utilisation and no Hard-disk use. It seems to be around the fsck.reiserfs point of the boot process.

Does anyone have any explanation? Can I file a bug somewhere about it?
