Can't use Xubuntu on my laptop

Asked by money shot

I tried to install Xubuntu 7.10 Alternate on my Toshiba Satellite 1800 100 laptop & it just won't run. My laptop specs are: intel celeron 700, 190mb ram, 10gb HDD, cd rom, trident 8mb video card. the alternate cd doesn't finish installing. I have lots of distros here at home & none will work either, even those minimalist distros like puppy linux & Damn small linux that is supposed to work on old machines. i pulled out my HDD, plugged it on another laptop & installed xubuntu 7.04 from there then i returned it on the toshiba. after i started it, i got an error message saying it can't run X or something like that. i think that's also why Puppy Linux & Damn Small Linux won't run on ir. its because they're both either using Xvesa or Xorg. The toshiba came with Windows XP. Right now I restored XP on it but I'm really hoping to Be able to install Xubuntu, or any Linux distro that has a good network manager that automatically connects to wireless networks. I'm mainly using this PC to Surf the internet, Documents & Music. Also, where can I download an alternate Xubutu 7.04? Any help will surely be appreciated. thanks!

money shot: You try to boot from a pendrive? I get and old laptop two and install xubuntu, but I can't do it with the cdrom, cause the driver was damage and don't work well.

If you have a high speed connection, You may try to install from the net using a netboot cd, or netboot disquetes.

i can install from cd actually. problem is, it seems X won't work on my Toshiba. Both Xorg & Xvesa. In Puppy Linux, it would hang after i chose any of those two when the live cd works perfectly fine on my other computers.

You may want to check the laptop testing wiki pages (a quick check reveals your model is not documented, but looking at similar models could help..)
