how do I convert avi to dvd

Asked by Ian Brownlie

I have tried DeVeDe and the result was far from satisfactory, the converted file grew from 700Mb to 1.4 Gb. with large sections of the movie repeating. I have also tried other converters with wine, and had disastrous results, ranging from unable to find the converted file even when specifying location, to just refusing to work in linux ( I have ubuntu gutsy ). These files were originally recorded from camera to a windows computer and came out as avi's. I would now like to burn them on to a dvd to share them.
