Try xsane

Thanks for the interest in this problem. I installed and tried xsane but get the notice "no devices found". I am beginning to believe this is a driver problem for Canon. My old HP all-in-one worked fine until it just wore out. Any other ideas about where to look for a solution. I am fairly new to this.

Hello,

The following is an answer I gave to Question 204739 today. It is essentially the same for your machine although I understand there is an issue with Canon and Linux.

"For the scanner to be recognized it has to have a ?????.usb file in the SANE directory gt68xx. Under Linux your scanner may be recognized under another name (Compatible). My Packard Bell scanner is recognized as a Mustek Bearpaw and works great

Search the web for your machine's Linux USB driver. The file has to be copied to the gt68xx directory using the Terminal.

You can also search on this Ubuntu Launchpad Answers."

Regards,

Allan :)

Thank you for your concern. I gave up trying to get his canon all-in-one to work. Canon has informed me that their printer-scanner  will not work on a linux system. they apologized for any inconvenience to me. I returned the printer scanner and got an HP model and it works just fine.

Hi again, thanks for your interest in my problem. The solution wasn't what I had hoped for, I had hoped to get the Canon working but alas, I am an old man of 76 yrs. and not very proficient at computers. The canon assisstance people told me that they only had drivers for Mac and Windows and that someone in the linux world would probably figure out a driver eventually. I didn't want to wait for that so I returned the Cannon and got an HP all-in-one and am now quite happy that all is working.
Thanks again

I did not solve the Canon problem, I just eliminated it by returning the product and exchanging it for an HP product. I'm sure someone in the linux world will eventually invent a driver for Canon but I need my "All-In-One" now.

My solution to any linux user interested in using printers or scanners is simple. Use HP products their HPLIP program solves the problem.

Thanks for everyone's time and effort.

Hello,

It is up to Canon to fix this problem. If they do not want to recognize Linux then it is all down to them.

Hi, and thanks for answering. I phoned directly to Canon using their service number, and they told me they only had drivers for Mac and Windows.
I replied that this product would be of no use to me without a proper driver and they agreed with me. Naturally I returned the printer-scanner and got an HP printer-scanner instead. Problem Solved. If Cannon dosen't want to sell their product to everyone that's their problem, HP will.
Thanks for your interest.
