dual boot install "mount points could not be unmounted"

Asked by joshMigration

In my first ever install of linux (xubuntu), I'm getting this when I do the guided partition process:

"installer needs to commit changes to partition tables, but cannot do so because partitions on the following mount points could not be unmounted: /media/Part\040Two "

I'm trying to install xubuntu alongside XP, and I've got plenty of disc space. ideas?

try calling sudo umount -a in a terminal window (applications -> accesories -> terminal or something like that) before starting the installer.

are you saying i should enter "sudo unmount -a" in the terminal window? is this any threat to my XP install?

Not a threat at all. But what is a threat is resizing your XP partition, which is going to happen. before proceeding, you should backup your data. There is a very little risk of loosing data, but it exists

Can you help with this problem?
