Hello josh,

That means that another instance of dpkg (or apt-get which is using it) is already running. Usually, it happens during a few minutes once a day when connecting to internet, because apt-get is updating from the web the list of updated packages. Wait a few minutes, and try again after. If you got the same problem, tell this to them and we will describe to you another way to resolve this problem.

Hope that it helps you.
