Totem has diagonal video, sound is ok

Asked by ABonifacio

New to Ubuntu. I tried out video on Totem with the example "Experience Ubuntu.ogg".

I can hear Nelson Mandela alright but the picture was just diagonal colored lines. If I can adjust perhaps the horizontal or vertical frequency then I would have the picture. But there are no controls or adjustments for those.

I tried loading a VCD Movie but it won't automatically recognize and play the movie. I quess I have to install some of the suggested codec.

My PC: Amd Duron 1.0 GHz
             743mb memory
              - no intalled graphic card.
            My motherboard manual says:
                 * HIgh quality DVD video playback
                 * Graphics engine clocks up to 133 MHz decoupled from memory clock.

Any suggestions what could be done with Totem.

For most video, audio, dvd, vcd stuff you need non-free codecs which you can't use in certain countries, for easy setup you can install ubuntu-restricted-packages from synaptic but know that these packages aren't legal in some countries...

Can you help with this problem?
