RAID 5 Installation only sees 1 drive, not the RAID

Asked by Tom

I have an ASUS M2NPV-VM motherboard and 4 400GB SATA hard drives. The mobo has RAID 5 available and I have set the 4 drives as RAID 5 and bootable in the BIOS. When I attempt to install 7.10, all it sees are 4 independent drives, no RAID. What do I need to do to get it to see the array?

Hi Tom,

You have a FakeRaid (as named "Software Raid" also). In this case you should use md (native Linux support to Software Raid). In this way you continue to see all drive plus one (this is the same drives viewed as single RAID device).

You cand find further documentation at:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FakeRaidHowto

Hope this helps,
Alessio

so, grub 1.98 works perfect with ISW.
u can use deb from here: https://edge.launchpad.net/~ricotz/+archive/unstable

also, u can run following command to use default settings:

$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure grub-pc

Can you help with this problem?
