Asked by Joe

What is a good WMA to OGG converter? Is it even possible to download it on a USB flash drive from one computer and then install it on a pc with Ubuntu 7.10 without an internet connection?

Hi, if you are using GNOME i could suggest you a nice nautilus script which is called nautilus-script-audio-convert which allows you to rapidly convert audio files in OGG format (included WMA) only with a right click. In order to install it you need to install those packages:

nautilus-script manager
nautilus-script-audio-converter

You need also "lame" package because of lame codec itself.

To download the packages you can find the appropriate ones via http://packages.ubuntu.com/ , specifying your own distro version.
For every package you also need to check you have also installed every depending package, the dependencies are those listed in red under package name, for example you can look: http://packages.ubuntu.com/gutsy/sound/nautilus-script-audio-convert

it says nautilus-script-audio-convert needs nautilus-script-manager, in fact you need to have installed that first (check for other dependencies also..)

Then you can put them an your USB drive, put them back on your pc and install them using sudo dpkg -i <packagefile>

When you installed everything you only need to run:

nautilus-script-manager enable ConvertAudioFile

in a terminal shell.

Restart nautilus then you can right click on the audio file you want to convert and choose the format.

Can you help with this problem?
