Good driver for Epson R800 Printer

Upon installing Gutsy, the only problem I have encountered is a driver for my Epson R800 Printer.
Gutsy immediately found the printer and it does work. (Connected via USB 2), however functions very, very slow and provides no control over the quality settings of the printer.
Can anyone help?
Please bear in mind that I am a new user of Linux.
