printable area is shifted

Asked by Reiner Jung

Hello,

every time I print a page the upper border is approx. 1 cm smaller than expected. This is really annoying. :-(
I have a Brother HL-2030 and I am using the recommended driver hl1250 for printing.

The problem existed in feisty an well as in gutsy.

I guess that the problem is related to the used ppd file. The ppd-file is for HL-2060. But I don't know how to fix this problem. The problem does not appear when I print from a MacBook, because the MacBook has its own printer driver and can therefore print through the raw device.

Also the printout is too light. And the problem can be reproduced with various applications including evince (pdf), gedit, and firefox.

Thanks in advace

Only for try something else, please try to download and use the hl1250 ppd on this page may help you (may be different ), you will find some infos about the status of drivers:
http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=Brother-HL-1250
http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=Brother-HL-2030

Please take look at
"Note: 12 Dec 06: Brother now seem to have new .deb drivers that also support 1200 dpi resolution."

Hello,

thanks to marcobra, I found another solution for my problem. Instead of using the hl1250 driver and the HL-2060 ppd-file. I use now the ppd-file of the HL-1250 printer. This solved my problem so far. This configuration does not allow 1200 dpi printing, however I am perfectly satisfied with 600 dpi so this is a non-issue for me.

I've also tried the new drivers from Brother itself. The result was not completely stasfactory, because it didn't work reliable. So if somewone has the same problem I recommend using the hl1250 driver with the HL-1250 ppd over the Brother printer driver solution.

Have fun
