Acer Laptop Keyboard Config Problem (edgy)

Asked by Steve Garton

I've just noticed that on my Acer Aspire 5601 laptop the £ (as in shift and 3) and capslocks keys do not 'work' in Edgy.

Can anyone suggest a) any work around and b) which package I could file a bug against.

Please let me know any commands I can issue that will help diagnose what is wrong, and why would not be reconised.

In dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg I selected gb and PC105 layouts, the same as I have on my desktop, where the keys seem to work just fine.

I believe this is a result of bug #50845. I've switched to US keyboard (for now) and everything works fine.

I'm sorry to hear about the issue with your Acer Aspire 5601 laptop in Edgy. To address the £ and capslocks keys not working, you might consider the following:

a) Workaround:

You can try changing the keyboard layout settings in the system preferences to see if that resolves the issue.
Additionally, you might want to check if there are any keyboard shortcuts or special key settings affecting these keys.
b) Bug Reporting:

If the issue persists, you can file a bug against the relevant package. In this case, it might be related to the keyboard input or X server.
To file a bug, you can visit the official bug tracking website for your Linux distribution or the project's GitHub repository.
For diagnostics, you can try the following commands:

Check the keyboard layout settings: setxkbmap -query
Examine the X server logs: cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log
I hope this helps
