Opening Ubuntu on Everex gOS

Asked by Todd

I would like to expand a question I asked a couple of weeks ago about using a Live-CD, if you don't mind ...

I bought one of those Everex gOS/Linux computers which as I understand it is based on Ubuntu.

Question: Does anyone know of a way to open up in Ubuntu?
I think it should be possible because gOS is based on it.

I really do not like gOS and really want to try straight Ubuntu without the gOS.

If this is not possible then I will tackle formating it and converting it to Ubuntu and removing the gOS ... but I would like to do it the easy way by just booting up into the Ubuntu that I suspect is already on there.

Sorry dude, but i must tell you're wrong.

gOS is truly based on Ubuntu, but it is another linux distribution. This means that the intern parts are the ones that resembles on Ubuntu. It is not an ubuntu with a different frontend. can you understand me?

If you want to try ubuntu, you will have to download the cd and install it on you pc. You can do that by formating your entire hard drive (and doing so you will get rid of it), or making a dual boot (you will have both ubuntu and gOs on your machine).

If you choose to format your hard drive, you will be able to reinstall the gOS system by downloading the iso image on the site, burning and installing it like on any other linux distro. The difference from the gOS available from the site and yours is that yours already comes with support for proprietary formats. Because of license issues, you will have to download those from internet after the installation. You'll need to do this with ubuntu too.

You can download Ubuntu here: http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download
The ubuntu site has lots of documents telling you about the installation and configuration process.

I hope i could give some help.

SORRY, I DISAGREE WITH THE ABOVE POST.

It took me a while to answer because I had to rebuild a part.

I downloaded gOS and speak from experience.

Synaptic has meta-packages including ubuntu-desktop.

Either install ubuntu-desktop from Synaptic or input to a terminal: sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop.

On the page where you login you should be able to choose whether your session is enlightenment (gOS) or gnome (Ubuntu).

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask Todd for more information if necessary.
