How can you control which monitor a dialog launches to?

Asked by Lonnie Lee Best

How can I disable this behavior I'm expirence while using two monitors?

When I lanch an application from the dashboard on monitor 1, I want that application to come up on monitor 1, but it launches to monitor2.

After launching an application, if I click an option that launches an additional dialog, that dialog will appear on the opposite monitor.

I'm contantly having to go from one monitor to the next with each step I do within an application.

How can I configure Unity, to keep dialogs on the same monitor as the application that launches them, and ultimately minimize my mouse-travel while working?

You can use devilspie (grab gdevilspie from googlecode) and you can tell apps to always fire up on what display you desire. Gdevilspie is a handy GUI as the default config for devilspie is all in config files.

Can you help with this problem?
