ess1869 sound card not detected - Compaq Armada 1750

Asked by kabads

Firstly, my user is in group audio.

lspci -v [1] does not show any detected card and aplay --list-devices [2] shows no devices.

sudo modprobe snd_es18xx gives:
FATAL: Error inserting snd_es18xx (/lib/modules/2.6.15-26-386/kernel/sound/isa/snd-es18xx.ko): No such device

I'm not sure what else I can do.

TIA
Adam

I know that this card should use snd_es18xx as it showed up as s1869 under the previous windows installation (in which the soundcard worked).

Hi Adam,

The ESS 1869 isn't a PCI device, it's ISA, which is why it doesn't show up with lspci.

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=40978 looks like a good start.

Thanks Popey and thanks for pointing me here via your log.

I've got the files mentioned in that post, but when I get to the modprobe part I get the error mentioned above. I'm kind of stuck at this point.

Can you help with this problem?
