How to install Xubuntu.7.10 download CD-R on a Windows 98SE system that has a free 2nd hard drive ?

Asked by Ed Reed

How do I install Xubuntu 7.10 from a download put on a CD-R to a second drive in a computer that has Windows 98SE installed on the first drive? I want a choice between Windows 98SE or Xubuntu 7.10 when I boot up. Does the second drive need to be partitioned and formatted with Linux Ext2 using Partition Magic 6.0 before attempting to install Xubuntu 7.10 ?

Once you have burnt the ISO image to a CD - restart your computer (with the CD in the drive), and Xubuntu should begin to load. If this does not happen then you might need to change the boot order in your computers BIOS setup.

You can proceed with Xubuntu installation as normal, but when you get to the partition screen, make sure that you select your 2nd hard drive. From memory (not certain) - there should probably be an option for "Guided - use entire disk" - but make sure that this disk is the 2nd one!

Once installed, you will be presented with a boot menu from which you will be able to select Windows or Xubuntu.
