triple boot vista 64-bit, fedora core 8 64-bit, ubuntu 7.10 64-bit

Asked by IKON

I am trying to triple boot my notebook I just built. After installing Ubuntu it looks like fedora disappeared, but when I tried to reinstall I noticed that fedora is still there so I'm guessing I have to modify the grub's boot here are my partition configurations. I can get into Ubuntu is there some way to get the triple boot going with out reinstallation?

You will have to create another entry for the grub. You can do that editing the file /boot/grub/menu.lst
Don't forget to make a backup before changing anything.

You'll find some help inside the file as there are lots of commented lines explaining options. You can search for info on the net too. There are lots of grub tutorials available. This page should also help: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/GrubHowto

hope it helps.

Ok, I was messing around and crashed the notebook so now I am reinstalling all operating systems starting with windows vista then fedora core 8 and last with ubuntu 7.10. Now are there any suggestion for installing Ubuntu to make sure it will play nice with fedora.

I also have to say i am kind of a newbie at Linux all together.

I'm going to partition in fedora and Ubuntu tell me if I'm messing and thing. This will be the partitioning scheme for both.

62 Gb of space:
400 Mb for boot
8 Gb for swap
53.6 Gb for root

Should I add a home mount point, or am I ok with what i have?

Dear IKON,

You will need a different partition for each system. It means one for windows, one for fedora and one for ubuntu. It would be nice if you create a separated one only for your your personal files too. It is unlikely that you need all this amount of swap. Create a swap partition that is two times bigger than the amount of ram you have. So, if you have 1gb of ram, create a 2gb partition.

After you are done installing all the systems, you will need to edit the grub menu list. Take a look on the link i've posted before to do that.

Hope everything goes well...
