Battery symbol does not show up on main menu, in Ubuntu 12.04

Asked by konika chawla

Hi
I have recently upgraded my dell laptop to Ubuntu 12.04 from Ubuntu 10.04.
Somehow I have lost the battery symbol on the main menu, and the system does not give any warning when it is critically low on power. It just shuts down.
I have tried going to system tools-system setting-power - 'show battery status in menu bar'- and selecting ' when battery is charging/in use'.
But it also does not work.
Could you please help.
Thanks

Does 'sudo apt-get install indicator-power' install indicator-power, or does it say you already have it installed and at the latest version?

Hi,
It says

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
indicator-power is already the newest version.
indicator-power set to manually installed.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

It's not what I hoped it to be. I don't know how to help with this, but someone else might.

You could also create a bug report about this, if you want. Typing 'ubuntu-bug indicator-power' starts that process.

If you make a new user and log in as it, does it show there?
