LibreBase cannot load in Ubuntu 12.04.

Asked by Thomas Kadmon

I Installed LibreBase via Ubuntu's Software Center.

When attempting to open it via a double click on an '.odb' file I get a message: 'LibreOffice 3.5 This operation is not supported on this operating system' in a pop up.

When pointing to LibrBases' icon on the laucher I get the message: 'Waiting to install'.

When I attempt to lauch the program anyway I get the same 'not supported' message as above.

Please help.

could try renaming ~/.config/libreoffice

Then rerun the app

This appears to work. At least the application starts.

I will not be able to test whether it can process an existing DB, as I
must leave the premises and will be away until Sunday afternoon
(GMT+1). I will run tests at that time and, if successful, close the
problem.

For now; many thanks, and have a nice weekend.

Good morning Mr. Hassey,

On 05/16/2012 11:15 PM, actionparsnip requested the output of:

    lsb_release -a; uname -a; apt-cache policy libreoffice-base

and that was:

    thomas@thomas-ThinkPad-SL:~$ lsb_release -a;
    No LSB modules are available.
    Distributor ID: Ubuntu
    Description: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
    Release: 12.04
    Codename: precise

    thomas@thomas-ThinkPad-SL:~$ uname -a
    Linux thomas-ThinkPad-SL 3.2.0-24-generic-pae #37-Ubuntu SMP Wed Apr
    25 10:47:59 UTC 2012 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

    thomas@thomas-ThinkPad-SL:~$ apt-cache policy libreoffice-base
    libreoffice-base:
       Installed: 1:3.5.3-0ubuntu1
       Candidate: 1:3.5.3-0ubuntu1
       Version table:
      *** 1:3.5.3-0ubuntu1 0
             500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/
    precise-updates/main i386 Packages
             100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
          1:3.5.2-2ubuntu1 0
             500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main i386
    Packages

Then on 05/17/2012 03:50 PM actionparsnip suggested that I rename
~/.config/libreoffice and then rerun the application.

I renamed it to ~/.config/libreoffice-x and after that everything worked.

I hope that this is of help to you.

Again: thank you all for the help.

Bernard

The configuration folder for libreoffice was renamed. This is done with a command like

mv ~/.config/libreoffice ~/.config/libreoffice-x

run in a terminal.

This forces libreoffice to create new, default, configuration files in ~/.config/libreoffice next time it is run. It is a good was to see if the original configuration files were the problem. If necessary, they can be moved back from ~/.config/libreoffice-x.

Is that the explanation you wanted?

Tony

Hi Tony,

Yes, this is what I wanted to know. In the meantime I had removed and re-installed base and it worked.

Thanks for your contribution
