Gimp 2.6 toolbars and Unity's launcher conflict
GIMP's left-hand toolbar and the Unity desktop's launcher/
The GIMP toolbar's left hand half is buried under the Unity launcher. Unlike previous (Unity-free) versions, you apparently can't move GIMP's two toolbars around, so you can't simply move it out from under.
And I thought Unity's taskbar thing had an option to "retract" offscreen to the left when it wasn't in use, but either that option has been removed from 12.04 or it's buried so well I can't find it.
Meanwhile, GIMP is nearly unusable.
Short of canning Unity and going back to a sane desktop (trust me, that's tempting...) how do I keep Unity from completely screwing with GIMP 2.6's toolbars like this?

For the Unity Taskbar issue.
To allow the Taskbar to retract, open your system settings > Appearance > Behaviour.
You'll be able to change it there :)

Thanks Michael Elliott, that solved my question.

Well, it kind of solved my problem.
Turns out GIMP in 12.04 launches with the top window bars *under* Unity's top bar, which is why I thought they couldn't be moved.
Off to file a bug against GIMP's default window positioning, I guess.
Anyway, thanks again, Mike.
