Finding

Asked by mkro

I have a number of programs that have been loaded and can be found in search such as gaim, medcom, etc, but are not evident under the applications. The appliacations are listed with version numbers and properties but cannot be found from the menu bar applications! Medcom should be under graphics and gaim under internet, but are not there. Where can I find the application, or how can it be displayed, if not displayed in the GUI? Alternatively, should it or they be accessed from terminal?

Some applications won't add an entry to the menu. You can run these using terminal, usually just type the name of the application (note that linuxes are case sensitive).

If typing the name doesn't run the program check the file list in a package manager (Synaptic in Gnome; look for files in /usr/bin, executables are usually placed there).

Gaim is currently called pidgin, and it should be under internet or can be run by typing "pidgin" in a terminal (installable thorough a add/remove). No Medcom seems to be available from the repositories, so can't tell anything about that.

Can you help with this problem?
