Ubuntu 7.10 doesn't install on my empty computer

Asked by other

I've bought a blank computer yesterday with the following specifications:

INTEL DUO CORE E4500 processor
2048 MB Nanya Elixir DDR2 / 667
320 GB Sata II U300 7200RPM 8 MB

I burned the iso-file on a 700MB disc, but when I have it in the drive while putting on the computer, it doesn't do anything. The screen turns black.
I also tried it with a cd containing the unpacked files, but this doesn't change anything. The computer does react on my Windows ME cd, so the drive should be working fine.

What do I have to do to start the installation proces? I'm a total noob with linux software.

Did you burn the image as just a .iso file on the cd? If you did that it wont work.
You have to tell nero to burn the image to the cd so it puts the contents of the iso on the cd and makes it bootable.

Also when you say it doesnt do anything, do you see BIOS at all?

Are you sure that you've burnt the image and not the iso-file?

Check this howto:

You have to also set your CD as first Boot device in the BIOS.
