Look at "difference between noapic and acpi=off kernel parameters" on http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-software-2/difference-between-noapic-and-acpioff-kernel-parameters-454675/

It suggests that "APIC is the replacement for the old PIC chip that used to come imbedded on motherboards that allowed you to setup interrupts for your soundcard, ide controllers, ect." and "I'd leave the APIC settings alone"

Is there a reason why you are booting with the noapic option?

Xubuntu would not boot on one machine for me until I used the option "acpi=off"

Can you help with this problem?
