An Error Ocurred

Asked by John Mussington

While using the update manager, the system froze and had to be restarted. Since then I am unable to update the system using update manager. Each time the manager reaches the stage where updates are to be downloaded and installed I get the following message:

E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg -- configure -a' to correct the problem.
E: _cache - > open() failed, please report.

I tried to run the command in a terminal but the result of that is totally confusing to me since I am new to Linux. Can anyone help with this?

Thanks a million arochester! I closed update manager as you suggested and ran the command. All the updates installed and everything was fine. I take it that the command manually installed the packages. I guess my problem is that I am new to the terminal and using commands to do things. Can you suggest any links to tutorials where one can get up to speed with linux commands?

Again, thanks and I do appreciate your assistance
