Opening Outlook Express files

Asked by ashok

I have backed up my outlook express email files on an external hard disk before changing my computer from Windows to Ubuntu. The Outlook express files are .dbx files and am unable to open them on Ubuntu. Please advise if this is possible and if so the procedure.

Many thanks,
Ashok

If I remember correctly, the Thunderbird email client can import Outlook Express mailbox files. So Install Thunderbird and then try to import them into Thunderbird. What email client do you currently use under Ubuntu? If Evolution, I think it can in turn import files from Thunderbird. Post back if you have more problems.

Thanks for your suggestion. I actually use my ISP server to look at emails
and do not use a email client. The outlook express files are backups and I
wonder if then can be opened by converting the .dbx files to something that
ubuntu will open.

best regards,

Ashok

Not directly no.

But, like I said, to convert them to something readable/usable, install Thunberbird. Then open them with Thunderbird, or further import them into Evolution, if that's what you want to use.
