Swap limiting?

Hi all,
I had a quick question about swap memory... Im having this weird thing where if I'm using 30% of my real memory (DDR 1gb [2x512]) my swap kicks in. It is significantly slowing my computer down and i dont know how to fix this, i would like my swap to kick in at like 70%full.... anyone got an idea of what to do?
