Problem loggin onto hotmail under Firefox 2.0.0.11 with ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy

Asked by manshar

I am having about a 25% success rate logging into my hotmail account. It always hangs up at "ads1.com" at the bottom lefthand corner of Firefox 2.0.0.11 under Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10. I have tried clearing and reaccepting cookies and don' know what else to do. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thankyou.Ishould mention I upgraded to Gutsy via the internet and not via a CD.

Do you have the AdBlock or AdBlockPlus extensions installed.

They may be blocking your request to a server with ads in the name.

Thanks for replying Brandon. When I did a file find I came up with 1.badblocks.8.gz. " gzip archive" 2.mozilla-firefox-adblock.desktop. "desktop configuration file" and 3.badblocks "executable" 3 did not respond to double clicking. 2 brought up a gedit file with a line in it "Startupnotify=true" and I didn't try 1. Also I searched the repositories and found "adblock" but it was not installed. What's next? maybe deleting the config file? Thankyou

In Firefox click on Tools, then Add-ons and look for AdBlock. If it is installed disable it and see it you still have problems logging in. If that fixes it you will want to disable it for that page.

Ok. Ido not have adblock installed and I'm also getting into hotmail okay now. So for some reason it seems to have fixed itself. The upside is I discovered addons. Thanks very much and problem solved. manshar

No problem. I'm happy that it is working for you. If you are going to try out add-ons I would recommend AdBlockPlus http://www.adblockplus.org for sure. You can find others at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/.
