Have you thought about using Frostwire, which is a GPLed clone of Limewire? There is a deb file available on the site, which makes it super easy to install. Download the file, double click on it, then choose install.

You also might be interested in checking out Automatix which will install Frostwire and a nice selection of other software/codecs/etc.

I suggest that you use gtk-gnutella, which allows you to share files on the limewire, morpheus and a few other networks.

You can install it using:
$ sudo aptitude install gtk-gnutella

You will need to have the Universe repository enabled.

If you want Frostwire, you could follow these instructions (I did tested them):

Chou-

You can also install the alien package which allows you to convert other packages (such as RedHat, SuSE, and Slackware) into debian/Ubuntu .deb packages.

1. Open a terminal (Applications --> Accessories --> Terminal)

2. Type: sudo apt-get install alien

3. Once alien is installed, use it to convert an rpm package by typing: alien --to-deb package.rpm

4. Then install the new package.deb program by typing:
sudo dpkg -i package.deb

That should do it.
