Ubuntu

Cant run RealPLayer 10

Hi ALl using Ubuntu 7.10 with all updates.
I downloaded RealPlayer10GOLD.bin to my Home directory.

I used chmod a+x RealPlayer10GOLD.bin [enter]
then sudo ./RealPlayer10GGOLD.bin [enter]
Password [enter]
prompt [enter]
/opt/RealPlayer [enter]
copying files....... [enter]
When asked whether to allow Installer to configure system wide symbolic links, type Y, and press ENTER, (this I did)

[enter]

RealPlayer was finished, the Icon came to Applications, Sound & Video.

I put the Icon on the Desktop.

Doubled clicked on it and nothing.

In the Properties of the RealPlayer Icon I see in the Command "realplay"

I can not get RealPlayer to run.

Can any one hep please?

I done exactly from a book called Ubuntu Linux For Non-Geeks

This also comes from some websites about RealPlayer10GOLD.bin

Ok. Lets start...

1. Your foldser dir is not "/opt/RealPayer" as you said. you install it at "/home/mike/RealPlayer"
2. How many installations are in your box? try "sudo updatedb" and "locate realp | grep bin"

or try "/opt/RealPlayer/realplay"

Yes I tried the example from a book exactly as the book said.
In my home folder the is one folder called RealPlayer with a lock icon
attached to it.

I redone the script to see where I went wrong but still the same.

I tried as you just said in a terminal but I get a rather long log
coming back at me.

yeap! And be sure remove the folders /opt/RealPlayer and /home/mike/RealPlayer

All sorted.
I re-installed RealPlayer10GOLD.bin
then downloaded some codecs for MPlayer, and now I can use it.
