Cannot change my screen resolution by 1024x768 to unknown monitor?
Why I cannot change the screen resolution of my unknown monitor to 1024 x 768? after I installed the Ubuntu 11 software into my computer, whereas before / during Ubuntu 11 test run the screen resolution was 1024 x 768. Now, its at 800 x 600 which I cannot read the other details on the screen. I tried to load the driver of the display adapter NVIDIA GeForce 5500, still it doesnt change the screen resolution. Please help. Thanks a lot. Best regards!

Try:
sudo nvidia-xconfig
Then reboot. Sounds like a monitor which doesn't talk back.

Looks like your monitor isn't great. You will need to manipulate the xorg.conf file until you get good resolution.
