can't upgrade to edgy

Asked by roger

My computer has been on dapper for ages and I decided to upgrade, following the recommended steps.

alt F2 and then gksu "update-manager -c"

This first runs the update manager to check that my computer is up to date.
The download manager opens a window "downloading package information" but cannot find the files. After a suitable delay it stops and opens a window, "Could not download all repository indexes", with the following error messages:

http://au.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/dapper/Release.gpg: Could not connect to au.archive.ubuntu.com:80 (211.29.132.173), connection timed out
http://au.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/dapper-updates/Release.gpg: Could not connect to au.archive.ubuntu.com:80 (211.29.132.173), connection timed out.

My system is therefore not up to date and the update manager does not give me the option to upgrade to edgy.

My question is where can get the repository indexes, or disable the requirement ot find them.

You can try to change your sources.list to main server or try it later again.

Following the replies to my question I decided to check the "Australian connection".

I edited the sources.list file and took out the au from each of the lines.

Now the upgrade in on the way.

Thanks for the help.
