her computer has the printer on a windows share and my ubuntu has files i want to share i`ve tried this many times but neither of them acknowledge each others existance, i can forgive the ubuntu ignoring windows hes got a pretty good reason too :P but i need this to work

About the files you can check Samba https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SettingUpSamba
and then read https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WindowsXPPrinter for the use of the Printer.

Hope this helps.

more info:

i open the printer management and it has no options but to connect to another CUPS server, i try entering my own computers info here and it says CUPS isnt running. i also tried another Print Manager and it said the CUPS manager could not be contacted

i dont think the service is running, how do i start it?

Note to those who have problems with CUPS like i did:

under System---> Administration---> Services
theres an option called "Printing Service (cupsys)"

mine wasnt enabled :P
